ABOUT US

Let us introduce ourselves and our Kennel.

We are Patty and Jim Gallik. We are the parents of four loving children who have all moved on with their own lives and we now focus our love and attention at home to our four footed family members. Our fondness for the Braque du Bourbonnais began in 2012 when we first read about the breed when researching the different breeds of versatile hunting dogs. We wanted a versatile hunting dog, one that would point, retrieve, and be quite fond of the water, but more importantly we wanted a family pet to share our home with. The Braque du Bourbonnais seemed to be just what we were looking for. After doing our homework and finding out much as we could about the breed, we realized that this breed was for us and we adopted our first Braque du Bourbonnais, a female “Lillie” from Aspen Ridge Kennels in 2016. Even though we had high expectations for the breed, “Lillie” exceeded all of our expectations. She immediately took to the field and her natural pointing ability and desire for birds were incredible. In the home, she quickly became a loving part of the family and quickly found her favorite spot on the sofa. As we traveled around to different training events, seminars, and hunting tests, we soon realized that this breed was not only unknown to us at first but also to most of the bird dog world as well. I was amazed that this breed was mostly not even heard of, let alone actually having been seen, among most bird dog enthusiasts. We were so happy with Lillie that we started thinking about getting a second “Bourbonnais” to share our home with and possibly starting an awareness and breeding program to help promote this breed and let others share in the great experience that we had encountered with the breed. In October of 2017, we put a deposit on a male from a litter that was being planned by Lonn Kuck, of Elk Run Kennels. In March, 2018 we adopted another female “Ruby” from Rufnit Kennels. Then on June 4 2018, the planned litter from Elk Run Kennels was whelped, and our first male “Tank” was born. In August 2018 we loaded up our travel trailer and headed to Idaho to pick up “Tank”. While we were in Idaho, our Lillie came into heat and was bred with Elk Run Jack of all Trades ("Chuck”) and hence LRT Kennels was officially born .
